Overview

Blind hollow shaft incremental encoders are designed for end-of-shaft installation where the shaft enters from one side only and does not pass fully through the encoder body. This configuration suits motor shafts and drive shafts where only one end is accessible or where the machine layout does not permit a through-shaft arrangement. The encoder attaches directly to the shaft end using an integrated clamping mechanism, and a tether or stator coupling prevents encoder body rotation. This eliminates a separate coupling assembly and simplifies installation in drives where space behind the motor shaft is limited. Bore sizes from 6mm to 30mm cover common motor shaft dimensions. Signal outputs match standard incremental formats: A/B quadrature with optional Z index in HTL, TTL/RS422, NPN/PNP, and SinCos. Resolution up to 5,000 PPR in standard configurations. IP65 sealing is standard, with IP67 available for harsher conditions. Compact housing dimensions keep the encoder footprint minimal even at the motor end. This encoder type is well suited for small servo motor feedback, compact drive units, machine tool auxiliary axes, and OEM motor integration where mechanical simplicity, fast installation, and minimal footprint are the key requirements. The blind bore design is the most common choice for OEM motor manufacturers integrating encoder feedback directly into the motor assembly at the manufacturing stage.
